JBL Tune 500 BT : Flashing blue light / won't connect with bluetooth

I've had the headphones for several months without issue, now they've suddenly stopped connecting. Device is listed on my laptop and is paired. Have also disconnected and reconnected. No change. When turn on, just getting flashing blue light that won't stop and won't switch over to Bluetooth into headphones when trying to listen to music.

I have tried several online suggestions for holding down (+) and (-) sound buttons for 15-20 seconds; have tried it with the on/off button, all three, and with bluetooth button...just reverts back to flashing blue light. Have tried to reset it, but the online steps I've come across for doing that have been very clear, but still haven't made any difference.

So the blue flashing light indicates that the device is trying to pair. So it's odd if the Windows laptop thinks it is still paired.

How many other devices have you paired this to in the past ? I'd make sure all others are turned off and then delete every historical pairing from Windows and then reboot the laptop.

One possibility is that a bad signal could be interrupting the paring process, so just to rule this out, as it's a laptop I'd try moving it to some other location and trying to pair again.
