Cowin E7 : Headphones try to connect, then suddenly don't

This question relates to connecting a Cowin E7 BUY NOW to a PC BUY NOW

I bought some new Cowin E7s a few days ago and basically what's happening is I'm trying to pair them to my desktop PC, and it starts out fine, it says it's connected. But then the device setup window appears, and then the moment the setup is complete, the status changes to not connected. And no matter how many times I turn off the headphones and turn them back on again, I can't get them to connect. The headphones connect to my smartphone just fine so would it be a problem with my bluetooth adaptor in the PC?

What model pc, windows version are you running ?

The PC is a custom build but it's running Windows 8.1

I have also found that other headphones I have connect to the PC fine

They aren't reconnecting to something else nearby that has a paired history with them are they ?

No, there's no other active bluetooth devices in the room. It probably bears mentioning that when I flick the switch, there's the usual three beeps, a sharp "beep beep" noise from the headphones, which I don't remember happening with my last pair...

I tested the old pair (they still work, just one of the cups is hanging off) and the same problem appears. Just the E7s, my Skullcandy Uproars work fine. But I don't want to use them because they're rubbish.

Okay, I've now replaced the bluetooth adaptor and fault is still occurring. I'm stumped now.

LD, just to check, are services in windows like "Bluetooth Support Service" enabled and working? Sometimes these can crash, end up disabled.

At the end of the day whilst it can't be guaranteed to resolve the issue and it isn't the answer you probably want to hear, the code base of your windows version is about 7 years old so if you can I'd highly recommend upgrading Windows.
