It only turns on when it plugged in. It flashes the last Fith LED light. If I unplug it, it just dies. I bought it at good will. So I know it doesn't have warranty. And the didn't give me a reciept. Is there any way to fix it.

Sorry Johnny it looks like you are going to be running it on mains only. It's worth checking sporadically on ebay and google if anyone is selling replacement 3rd party battery parts but it doesn't seem so right now.

Craig responded : 6:01pm, 31st August 2016 (4 years ago)
My speaker was working fine, and I pressed the connect button and plus button at the same time for several seconds and the speaker stopped working, I figured it was some type of factory reset. None of the light would come on unless I plugged the power cord in and then the power button would light up. So with the power plugged in, I pressed the connect button and plus button at the same time and held them down until one of the power level led's at the bottom of the speaker flashed red approx. 10 seconds and the speaker started working normal again... Hope this helps....

Thanks Craig, worked like a charm! After the factory reset, I was unable to power up the xtreme without the power brick and none of the buttons worked. After holding down the connect & plus buttons for 10 seconds the unit was again responsive!

UPDATED SOLUTION 27 AUG 2017
I tried the method on the JBL Aus Support Website it didn't work.

1. Plug the speaker into its charger. The White power standby LED should come on. I could also hear static from the speaker up close and the battery indicted it was charging, a welcome sign!
2. Press and hold simultaneously, The JBL CONNECT button < and the VOLUME UP + button for over 10 seconds. The first battery LED on the bottom right will turn RED. This confirms the device is Reset.
3. Press the power button as normal. my speakers state was power on, so pressing the button turned it off, hearing the power off jingle. it might be different for you. If the battery was very low, keep the device charging until fully charged.
4. Test power up and power down, then test the speaker shows up on other devices.
5. Play some music at different volumes and streaming quality to test latency, stutter and distortion.

NOTE: My speaker retained its bluetooth rename and firmware update after the reset. So I don't think it was a factory reset. I am suspicious there is a 'Button Lock' mode for transporting the speaker in a bag where it won't get turned on. Maybe its programmed into the firmware and JBL have not disclosed, or for some reason have forgotten about it. I think I accidentally activated this when I was playing around with button combo's.

Had the same problem with my JBL charge 3, when I tried to turn it on, the battery indicator just blinks once but never turns on. Only turns on when charging, but cant be used at all. Fixed it by holding the connect beside the power button and volume up + button at the same time. It worked for me!

The only way to solve this problem really is to replace the battery. Cost you approx 30 Euro and a bit of carefull work to be found on the internet .
It is a bloody shane that a brand like JBL does not admit they screwed up with this product and offer free replacement / repair !!!

I replaced the battery and did factory reset. It worked like a charm!....I found the battery for $27 on my Walmart.com or App. Thanks to all who posted fix!! There is a youtube video on how to disassemble. Keep track of screws and write notes as you disassemble.

Hi guys.
After trying to reset my JBL extreme (bluetooth + volume up) my speaker would won't turn on again.
When I put the charge cord in, the blue charge lights and the power button lights up. Then I press bluetooth and volume up again and after 10 sec it just shut completely off, and it's not possible to turn it on again.
Does anybody have the solution for this?
Best wishes
Gumpetung

Factory reset didnt work for me. The JBL xtreme had become locked. In YouTube search for video JBL Xtreme Lock @ Unlock by Semih Ustaalioglu. Follow the guys actions. Essentially you need to hold down the + button and button to the direct left of this together for a few seconds then remove the power chord. Hope this helps some of you.
