So I encountered this issue tonight trying to pair my daughters new headphones, I held down the volume up and volume down button to make the lights flash red and blue, then once the phone had discovered the head phones I tapped to connect and it asked for a pin so I entered a generic one to which it said couldn't connect, then I held down the power button and the volume down button until the light was flashing blue then I tapped to connect again and it connected! Hope this helps I found this forum while I was searching for answers myself
