So these headphones have been around me for a year and when I thought about listening to music I tried turning them on and all I get is a weird purple light and I heard these things don't turn purple.

Have you tried resetting? It should either be both volume buttons held down together or volume up with play button.

Mine did the same thing last night. They just stopped working in the middle of music and then a constant purple light. I just plugged in the charge cord and it seems to have gone back to normal.

I had this same problem & tried doing the reset with them both powered off, hold down buttons on both sides at the same time for 10 secs to allow it to go thru power on/power off (power cycle), which didn't fix the problem... but I did like user JDub suggested & put them in the case & plugged the charger into it, & this seems to have fixed the issue with mine...
