There are others with the same issue on the forum here, if you haven't I'd suggest a good search through other posts. There is clarification of the charging process in a link within the troubleshooting tips box at the top of this page.

I have the same problem! I am trying to charge the case first by plugging in the micro USB. Then once the case is charged, unplug it and charge the ear buds.

You have to fiddle with it for an hour. Haha. I also tried charging the left bud separately in the case. The case is unplugged. I also powered both down and powered the left one to be PRIMARY. Eventually I got it to work.
The left one does not seem to hold a charge for very long. Shortly after I got _both_ buds working it said, "Low battery, charge now". Not a very good user experience for a brand new product!

You might also have to power down before you charge. That might have been my issue. Hold the button to power down.

I was having the same problem for days, my left earbud would always say battery low and nothing happened when I put it in the case to charge. I looked in the case this morning and there was a hair in it! I cleaned it out with a cotton swab and put the earbud back in the case and it started charging immediately.
